Clarification Is OBVIOUSLY Needed
I was over at T-Bone's today reading his thoughts on items written that wind up in archieves and never read ~ well T-Bone today that theory was proven wrong :smile. Since I got an interesting email on a post I made on April 4th, 2003.
Now first let me state up front and personal this is not a "bashing" post ~ it is a post to address some issues brought up in an email I received today which by nature I'm assuming it was not meant as a personal attack on me, however, some things were stated in the email that I felt were a personal attack on me as an individual.
Read more if you care too:
Now, as you've seen I linked up the article in question, as I had to re read it just to remember what I had said ~ I can barely remember yesterday much less what was stuck in my crawl in April!!!
The reason that post was generated clearly is stated in the first paragraph, one of my deariest friends and I had a HUGE disagreement over the topic that I posted about. Then I went on to ask my readers to give their views on the seperation of Church and State.
The email started out as this ~ which is posted in the comment section of that particular article ~
Seperation of Church and State,
First, I would like to know where you came up with the saying "Seperation of Church and State?" Do you know who said it and exactly how that person felt on the issues of religion?
Well let's see, where would I get an idea of seperation of Church and State, because State has stated that there is a seperation, hense why we can not even state a silent prayer in school, "Under God" has been removed from the pledge of aligence, just two examples of MANY that leap to mind all under the guidelines of "SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE". Do I know who said it exactly by name NO, do I know how that person felt on the issues of religion again NO ~ Do you?
Also are you saying that abortion and same sex marriages should be legalized nationally because of the relation to religion in the first ammendment? The basis for these being illegal is that people believe these to be morally wrong. American standards of right and wrong are and have been derived from the Bible. Without the Bible there is nothing to tell man what is right or wrong except the government. And you and I have seen that the laws of the government can easily be changed. Therefore, without the Bible, why not legalize murder and rape and incest and child pornography and drug abuse? What is wrong with doing any of these things? Again, without saying that these are immoral or illegal you can give no answer.
Okay here is when I started getting a bit peaved ~ in reference to abortion "I" believe that it is a woman's PRIVATE decision on rather she should obtain one or not. Would I personally seek out an abortion, I can comfortably say no, I don't believe in it in regards to myself as a woman. But I'm not judge nor jury of other's decisions. In reference to same sex marriages ~ two consenting adults wanting to have the same piece of legal paper stating they are married again that is their decision ~ I'm not here on earth to judge other's I'm here to be a voice a lowly voice of MY beliefs. And I do not NOW nor will I EVER believe it is anyone's place to say "you can't marry that person you love because it isn't proper". I believe in what the bible preaches LOVE not judgement and most importantly last time I checked I'll be the only one standing in judgement before God when I pass away not awaiting a Superme Courts decision!!! So therefore on those topics yes I do believe that it should not be disallowed!!!!
Where I really got peaved is when I started reading that you must have assumed that I also felt that there should be leaglization of murder, rape, insest etc ~ before you judge me *and I'm getting to where I believe you judged me* you should read more of my blog other than one insert. I asked for opinions and I respect your opinion all I ask in return is respect of mine!!!
*Added later* ~ after talking with someone I've come to value his opinion ~ he pointed out that the writer of this email was only trying to drive home the point in regards to moral issues. That if making one moral issue okay and not the rest etc. I can see that, however, I think one is running out into left field to catch a ball that was hit right up the center of the field ~ to me makes no sense . I was adressing two issues ~ as well as ~ it was stated "people" believe same sex marriage's are immoral. Granted, but not ALL THE PEOPLE believe that for if they did it would be a mute point wouldn't it???
God did not make us equal for a reason and disagreeing to spread his word I'm sure was one of those reasons. Plus the world would be a boring place!!! I can't even believe that someone would go so far into left field thinking that I meant that everything that is considered illegal be leaglized *shaking head*. But yet, I'm daily amazed!!
Now where I could just agree to disagree with "some" of the things you posted in your comment ~ HERE is where I draw the line!!! Again if you had bothered to read more about me ~ you'd know this was a direct stab towards me as a person and a person whom you do not know!!!
I feel that your father being a preacher would be very disappointed in you and if he is a Bible believing preacher, you should talk to him and he will be able to explain to you further.
I'm sure there are other preacher's that may or may not be Bible preaching, but well, I have no idea as my daddy PREACHES and FOLLOWS the Bible. He is an honorable man and a wonderful preacher. Would he be disappointed in me??? READ MY BLOG I readily admit and hello I admitted it in my post your felt free to throw this issue under, that I do disappoint not only my father but my mother in regards to some of my beliefs and actions I take in my life, but they BOTH would be even MORE disappointed if I became someone other than myself. They raised me to believe in the Bible, Church, Church going people, most importantly God, but also to believe in myself and what I believed in!!!! For the record I talk to my daddy on a regular basis about such violatal *however you spell it* issues and NO we do not always agree, but at least he doesn't belittle me and can give valid points in regards to his views unlike the comment I feel that was left on this particular subject.
Considering I do not know you, those who know me and read my blog, know I'm being very restrained ~ so should you venture across these lines again which I welcome your return ~ please at least try and get an idea of who I am before you readily pass judgement upon me but let me be VERY CLEAR to everyone ~ trying to determine any form of my relationship with my parents is completely OFF LIMITS unless you know each individual of whom you are speaking of personally and yes there are those that read that know not only me but my family!!!!
GOING TO CHURCH DOES NOT MAKE YOU A CHRISTIAN ANYMORE THAN STANDING IN A GARAGE MAKES YOU A CAR

I've received a number of comments on some of the archives of my blog, too. It always amazes me that someone is reading "back issues." I'm disappointed that there are people who find this a way to leave cutting messages, but that seems to be balanced off by those who are really interested in what you had to say.
I'll have to go visit T-bone to see what he had to say on the subject.
Jamie, on a deep issue like this, I have to agree that your visitor needed to read a bit more to understand your point of view.
Posted by: Buffy at December 4, 2003 8:10 PMWell I must say.... that was by far the most well thoughtout, consice, and provoking piece of writing that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I am proud that I must have rubbed off on you...LMAO Just kidding!!!
More to the point, you handled this situation and obviously non-informed response with grace, style, and the right amount of stern language to make your point very very well. I love you dearly.

Posted by: Speed at December 4, 2003 8:59 PMJamie...people aren't really "reading back"... I get a lot of email from back posts too. They're doing searches and ending up at blog sites. If you check your web stats, you'll find this to be true...
Which seems to me that this is some guy doing a search for people talking about a certain topic -- so he can try to impose his views on them. Think about this for a second and you'll find it's a very likely scenario.
About his "arguments"... They are classic fallacies written about in every ethics and logic class ever given. It's called a "slippery slope" argument.
"This type plays upon the vagueness of the distinction between two terms that lie on a continuum."
Don't let someone like that put a bee in your bonnet.
Posted by: Bluewolf at December 4, 2003 9:22 PMOkay let me state this ~ I checked my states it was not a random search via yahoo/msn/google and the like ~ however I'm not familiar with this group so I don't know if they can search for a specific topic. The url how they found my addy on this topic stated only "webblogs.com". Yes the email bothered me, but everyone is intitled to their opinion, what I took offense too is the fact they were attacking me and how my father in "their view" should feel about me and didn't bother to read other pages on my blog ~ since the site meter T'sey has me set up with shows that type stuff *big grin*.

That's usually what I offer up with religious types (there is a big difference there). I can never understand the broad generalizations and sweeping assumptions that people can make on a person based on a post or two.
There's also this silly assumption that this is a "Christian nation" and laws all came from the Bible.
1. Our founding fathers were *far* from "good christians", in fact many of them were atheists. "Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 50's to tick off those "Godless Commies in Russia".
2. Civilizations have had laws long before the Old Testament was even written. Murder, theft and rape was frowned on for at least 5,000 years in China and Egypt... long before they ever heard of Christianity, Islam or Judaism.
Ugh... I love God and His Son.
But frankly, His people drive me NUTS!!!
Well Jamie, first off I'd like to state that I am very touched to know that there are people out there that DO stand true to there words and beliefs. For the record, you're not alone. I feel that this post is/was indeed a very sensitive (sp?) topic for you and Im sure including myself among alot others. However we most respect and obtain all opinions that others might possess. BUT, and this is a big BUT, there is a time and point that one should draw the line and keep some sights to themselves only for the reason being to RESPECT one as a HUMAN BEING just like themselves. So with saying this, JAMIE, GOD Bless You for being true to yourself. It takes alot for people to realize their true selves and meanings. I look up to you from your words and thoughts. And remember, there's a certain time that a person should disregard what others thing of others. :-)

So true, so true. Jamie, that was a well written response to the email you received.
Posted by: Desiree at December 5, 2003 12:08 AMWow, Jamie! Tell it, sister.
I get comments on posts buried deeply in my archives, too, but it's usually been spam. I think there needs to be a separation of Blogs and Spam.
